Grades

Which matcha grade do you need?

Three core grades cover most buyers. "Ceremonial" is a quality descriptor, not a regulated term. See the full grade guide for how to choose.

GradeColourFlavourBest forFineness
Ceremonial AAAVivid emerald greenVery smooth, low astringency, long sweet finish, elegant umamiCeremonial/premium tea, fine pastry, fine dining, premium retail1,500–2,000 mesh
Classic / Café AABalanced greenFull umami, clear tea character with some astringencyDaily matcha lattes, tea-shop standardisation, large-scale food processing1,000–1,500 mesh
Roasted Character ABrown-greenDeep, coffee-like, roasted mineral notes with umamiSignature beverages, crossover F&B, differentiated menus800–1,200 mesh

The full production range spans five tiers (A / AA / AAA / AAAA / AAAAA) for price-performance matching beyond the three grades above. Every grade ships with organic certificate copies and test reports (pesticides, heavy metals, microbiology).

Origin & production

Grown high, milled slow

Our origin partner farms high-altitude organic gardens at 800 m and above elevation in Zhejiang Province, China, where cooler nights and mist support the shade-growing that gives matcha its colour and umami.

Shaded organic tea garden terraces at high altitude
  • Low-temperature granite stone milling (under 40°C), approximately 40 g per mill per hour for top grades. Ball-mill, continuous, and air-flow grinding also available for industrial volumes.
  • Gardens at 800 m and above elevation. Amino acid content is reported by our producer at approximately 30% above industry average.
  • Garden area of 1,000+ mu (approximately 67 hectares), expanding to approximately 2,000 mu within three years. Up to 1,000 tonnes of fresh leaf per year and 300+ tonnes of deep-processing capacity, with an 800 m² EU-organic matcha workshop rated at 500 tonnes per year.
  • A dedicated 800 m² EU-organic matcha workshop, plus ongoing R&D cooperation with national agricultural research institutes.
Quality & EU compliance

Five controls behind every batch

Matcha carries specific import risks (pesticide residues, mineral oil from packaging). Here is exactly what we test and document.

Pesticide and heavy metal screening

Pre-shipment screening aligned with recent RASFF notifications: 30–40 pesticide parameters (including dinotefuran, lambda-cyhalothrin, and imidacloprid) and heavy metals (lead, cadmium), respecting the EU default maximum residue level of 0.01 mg/kg.

Mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH/MOSH)

Every batch is tested for mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH/MOSH) by third-party labs, and the report is supplied with your documentation pack.

Dedicated, contamination-controlled processing

Grinding takes place on a dedicated negative-pressure, dust-free line. Packaging is never shared with loose-leaf tea, and batch traceability runs from garden to carton.

Packaging built to protect the product

Aluminium-foil vacuum inner packaging, food-grade PE liner, and virgin ink-free outer cartons (no recycled board, since matcha readily absorbs mineral oil from recycled fibre). Food-contact materials meet PFAS limits.

A documentation pack with every shipment

Organic certificate copies, batch CoA and test reports, third-party mineral-oil and pesticide reports from internationally recognised labs, a health certificate, and support for TRACES/CHED pre-notification.

FAQ

Common questions from buyers

Is your matcha certified organic in the EU and the US?

Yes. Our matcha is EU Organic (Regulation (EU) 2018/848) and USDA NOP certified. Certificate copies are supplied with every quote and every shipment.

Where is your matcha produced?

Our certified organic matcha producer operates high-altitude organic gardens (800 m and above) in Zhejiang Province, China, with shade-growing, stone-milling, and modern grinding lines dedicated to matcha.

What's the difference between ceremonial and culinary matcha?

"Ceremonial" describes a quality tier, not a regulated term: very fine particle size, vivid colour, low astringency, and a smooth, sweet finish, traditionally whisked with water alone. Culinary grades have a bolder, more robust flavour that holds up when mixed with milk, sugar, or baked, and are typically more cost-effective for high-volume use. See the full grade guide for specifications.

Which grade should a café use for matcha lattes?

Our Classic / Café grade (AA) is built for this: full umami and clear tea character that comes through even with steamed milk, at a price point suited to daily volume. Higher-volume chains sometimes standardise on Roasted Character (A) for a bolder, differentiated flavour profile.

Which grade is best for baking, ice cream, or beverages?

Culinary grades (A and AA) are formulated for processing: they hold colour and flavour through heat, freezing, and mixing better than ceremonial grades, at a lower cost per kilogram appropriate for bulk use.

What is your minimum order quantity?

Samples start at 1–5 kg. Custom retail packs start from 1,000 tins or boxes. Industrial bulk orders run 100–500 kg with volume pricing. Mixed grades can be combined to reach thresholds, and smaller orders are possible on request.

Can I get free samples?

Yes. We provide free 100 g samples per core grade, with certificate copies and test reports included. You only cover the courier cost, which is credited against your first bulk order.

Do you offer private label / white label matcha?

Yes, from 1,000 tins or boxes, with custom packaging and branding. See our private label page for details.

What documents come with each shipment?

Organic certificate copies, batch CoA and test reports, third-party mineral-oil and pesticide reports, a health certificate, and support for TRACES/CHED pre-notification. See the quality & compliance page for the full list.

How do you control pesticide residues and mineral oil (MOAH/MOSH) contamination?

Every batch is pre-shipment screened for 30–40 pesticide parameters and heavy metals against the EU default MRL, and tested for mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH/MOSH) by third-party labs. Grinding happens on a dedicated, dust-free line, and packaging uses virgin (non-recycled) board to avoid mineral oil absorption.

How long does delivery to Spain or the EU take?

Transit time depends on your location and order specifics. As a general guide, the full process from first contact to first delivery is typically 30-45 days, including sample validation, agreement, and production. We deliver CIF to your designated port with full documentation.

What packaging formats are available?

Tencha in 15 kg cartons; matcha, hojicha, and black tea powder in 5×5 kg cartons; retail tins (30 g and 80 g); boxes of 10 single-serve sticks; and private label / custom packaging.

Can you develop a custom grade or blend?

Yes. Ongoing account management includes quarterly reviews and co-development of custom grades as part of our standard process.

How should matcha be stored, and what's the shelf life?

Store matcha sealed, refrigerated or in a cool dark place, away from heat, light, and moisture. Shelf life is 12 months from production date when stored correctly and unopened.

Do you supply hojicha or other tea powders?

Yes, hojicha (roasted green tea) powder and black tea powder are available in the same bulk carton format as our matcha powder.
