Sucralose, also known as E955, is a high-intensity sweetener used to replace or reduce sugar in foods and drinks. Chemically it is a trichlorinated sucrose derivative, C12H19Cl3O8, and it is classed simply as a sweetener. It dissolves readily in water and carries no odour of its own, so it sweetens without adding flavour or bulk. The common names trichlorosucrose and trichlorogalactosucrose describe the same molecule.

Manufacturers use it in beverages, dairy, bakery, confectionery and tabletop sweetener systems where a stable, water-soluble sweetener is needed. It is supplied as a white to off-white powder, vegan, Halal and non-GMO, produced in China. It is highly soluble, so it disperses easily in aqueous mixes and dry blends. Store it dry and sealed; fine powder can become airborne, so handle with dust control and standard hygiene.
