Beta-Carotene IS 30% is a colour used to give foods and drinks warm yellow to orange tones. It belongs to the carotenoid family, the same group that colours carrots and other plants, and carries the E-number E160a(ii). In production it colours fat-based and emulsified systems such as spreads, dressings, beverages and confectionery, where its oil-soluble nature lets it disperse evenly through the fat phase.

The ingredient is supplied as a viscous, thick fluid or paste-like liquid, deep red-brown to dark purple-red, with a mild oily or vegetable-like aroma. It is insoluble in water, so it must be incorporated into the oil phase or dispersed with a suitable carrier before addition. Store it sealed and protected from light and heat, and warm gently if needed to make handling easier.
